Working on a 02 freightliner mt 45.Has a ISB that is randomly shutting down.At idle it surges sometimes.Changed lift pump, put inline filter before lift pump to check for debris.Pressure is 12PSI at vp.Changed cam sensor,Wired the 12 volt supply to vp pump directly still randomly shutting down but starts right back up.Truck could run fine half the day than start acting up.There are no codes being set. There is no smoke or miss. When it acts up it could sputter than clear up or just shuts off like you turned the key off.Ypu could be driving down the road and it would be running fine than just shuts off but starts right back up.

First off I Would clean the battery connections, the ground wires to the engine, and the cab. I would remove the extra keys, on the ignition switch. If that does not do it remove the ignition switch and check the wiring, and connections.
Just a thought! -
cleaned the batteries, and all the grounds on frame.
-
john why do you say remove the extra keys?

The fuel shutoff solenoid is built into the VP44 pump and has been known to fail in the manner you describe.
-
wouldn't it throw a code,
-
Nope, intermittent fuel shutoff solenoid triggers no code.
-
vp pump needs to be replaced i guess

One time I had an 02 freightliner delivery van with an ISB doing the same thing, but the driver noticed the voltmeter would be pegged left when the engine shutdown while driving. The alternator was intermittently shorting to ground. You might slip the belt off and check for play and give it a spin and check for noise/roughness in the bearings.
