I've just done a rebuild on my DDEC IV 12.7L and am now interested in doing something with the ECM. I've got Mr Haneys contact info so am likely going to get something through him. He seems to be a wealth of knowledge albeit mainly on Cat. I like to support someone that is willing to share his expertise and not just "sell" you something. Any suggestions on what to do/get would be greatly appreciated.

I haven't even had my truck on the road since the rebuild so I can't tell you how this turbo is working. The guy I bought it from said it will spool up faster and have better throttle response. We'll see!

My rebuild included matched injectors, bullydog ported and polished manifold, FASS fuel system, PP damper and balance ring, BW K31 turbo (wastegated), PP mufflers, and I eliminated 3 of the 4 sections of flexpipe in my exhaust. I wish I had discovered this forum before I did the rebuild though and would have saved some cash and done a couple of things differently. :biggrin_2552::biggrin_2552:

Kubota, what Turbo did you go with? I found a very little bit of oil leaking from the vband clamp on my 2000 12.7 430/470 yesterday. Time to change and I've grown tired of Reliabuilt crap. ETA, current Turbo is a Garrett GTA42 R23528059

Im still running the pos wastegated stock turbo....with bullydog and donaldson mufflers getting around 6.5-7.2 mpg running 75000 plus with little deadhead, motor has about 630000 2000 12.7. After ive made some more money with the truck im going to eventually go with b/w 171702, but for now im working on fixing little things that need immediate attention.

He made me a custom ecm program and built me a sweet borg warner turbo. Better fuel mileage, more power, spools faster. Beautiful job. Look up that DDECIV ecm thread, I put info on there that's specific. Talk to him, he makes Detroits sing :biggrin_25519:

I think you did grump, he was referring to rebel 127, he also has a truck that he drives and a very fast one too, something like hi 14's on the quarter mile.

Feel free to give me a call on the ecm tune and turbo selection. The tune and turbo work best when matched for your specific application while taking into consideration what you haul, where you go, as well as taking your driving style into consideration. I can program while you wait or you can ship me your ecm. Either way, I can help lead you in the right direction so just let me know how I can help.

Borg Warner makes a turbo that is a good choice. No waste gate and good quality. BW 171702. Can be had for $600 - $700.

OOPS.... kubotaorange76 already mentioned this turbo. My bad.

But there is also the 171702 variety from the AirWerks division of Borg Warner that does even better... the S400SX4-75. Can be had for around $800 - $900. Takes the 171702 to a whole new level.
