How does a 5th wheel hitch work?

    ....Let's be honest, I know how it works but I'm having a problem.

    It's stuck close :\

    I can pull the pin handle but it won't stay open - I have to use a bungee cord to hook and unhook!
    It's a PITA! I only have 1 more trailer to pull today but maybe I can fix it.

    Use visegrips...
    Sounds like some hardware failed...a snapped spring perhaps...time to rebuild it i bet...

    Fontaine, nice looking plate but way too many parts. If too many parts are gibbled look into a Jost to fit a Fontaine pedastal, very few moving parts.
