A friend is looking at an '04 C12 with 14,000 hours on it. He says it looks and runs good but is wondering about the pros/cons on this engine. Thoughts?

Being in an 04 truck it's a bridge motor with a MBL serial number.

Upgrade the ECM to the earlier files and they run good

The earlier C-12's engines were also known for the piston skirt breaking. This would cause the piston crown and rod to exit the block........makes a nice window for checking the oil

The last of the C-12's were much better in this regard and since this is an 04 it's the very last of the C-12 engines. He shouldn't have any issues with it with the right ECM tuning and removing the catalytic converter mufflers

We are running 2003 C-12's right now, did have one break a crank, and had one drop a valve, but this was all at very high mileage, we are just hoping they last until the new trucks arrive.

Ours are set at 430, they pull decent for us, BUT we are light. Biggest complait is they are not nearly as good on fuel as our old ISM's.
