I have a eaton 13sp, 1650 tq can some one tell me the exact difference between the 1650 and 1850 tq ? Can 1650 be upgraded? Or more cost effective to swap trannys? Already have a 2100 ft. lb. clutch. Any thoughts?

They are the same. Bearings are the same, gears are the same. Ask any independent honest transmission guy.

I have an 03 with a RTLO16913A in it and I asked my gear guy why someone wouldn't speck a RTLO18913A with the big engine. He said whoever ordered it was trying to get away from the liquid cooled tranny cooler. He says they are the same.

I have heard some (just few) gears are made of higher grade steel - that supposed to be only difference between 2050 and 1850 torque versions

IIRC the bearings/shafts are bigger in the 2050 and bigger trans.

Can you provide a link for that ?

I've been looking myself to find the difference between an RTLO18918B and RTLO20918B and the specs from eaton state that they are EXACTLY the same in size and weight. I haven't been able to determine one verifiable difference.

The guy's at the shop I was buying my tranny mentioned something similar to you, but with the shrug of the shoulders... they were guessing.

    thx

Edit, I just googled IIRC and see that it means " if I remember correctly " sorry.
Where's my daughter when I need her.

I only know there is no difference between the 1650 and 1850. What the difference with the higher ones I'm not sure, but I was told there is one.

I'm going off of what my transmission guy told me. Like he said, if there was a difference, the bearings and gears wouldn't have the same part numbers....

And no you will not find a link from eaton or any transmission builder about it, that would be admitting they was lying and could probably end up in a lawsuit over it.

Its a scam with them and truck makers. If you want to turn up a 475hp 1650 torque to 550hp 1850 torque they want you to pay for the extra warranty on the trans which is a only a 1650 ft lbs trans. You actually pay for nothing.

I would look for the difference being in the case where it wouldn't be easily detectable, such as higher nickle content in the casting and/or additional material for support. The internals could be identical in a stronger housing to up the rating.
