I Just wanted to warn the O/O's about a radiator company that advertises in Truck Paper. The company is called General Radiator, the guy that runs it is named Jim, he seems nice but is a total goof and a schister. Best I can tell they're also doing business as "national porges" too, because they use/used the same address. They offer a five year warrenty but it's not worth it because the warrenties don't cover any labor charges at anytime, no matter what. I bought 2 radiators and a charge air cooler from them and havn't had nothing but trouble and will not be doing anymore business with them...EVER. Bought my first radiator back in June of 2010 and it never cooled the truck very well. Stock temp on the thermostat is 180 and when the ambient temp was over 70 the truck would run hot at around 210 making the trucks fan stay on constantly. Not normal for my truck. I decided I get what I pay for and kept it, just drove slower to ensure truck didn't overheat and in august I needed a charge air cooler. I didn't have the money to pay anyone else for labor so I did the work myself, ordered it from general (I didn't blame them for my truck running hot at that time) I blamed myself for buying a 3 row core. They first sent me the wrong charge air cooler, they then made me wait, even though it was their mistake, for the other one to be sent back to them before they shipped out a replacement. They said they would overnight another one down, I ended up waiting 5 days for it to show up. A repair that would've only taken 3 days had they done their job right in the first place, took me two and a half weeks. For all my troubles I went through they gave me $200 store credit. Ok, not bad, I'll take it. Well, 8 months after my radiator was replaced in june of 2010 (February of 2011), my radiator started leaking. I called them up, they said they could send me a replacement for free or because I had problems with cooling, they'd upgrade to a four row core for $600.00 with a money back guarentee that it would work to cool the truck (yeah, moneyback guarantee my butt, they reniged on that). Ok, I decided to go with it and they sent me a four row core and I had to send my old 3 row back. The thing started to leak 4 weeks after I put it in and they kept telling me to put dry seep in it. I put it in time after time but it wouldn't stop leaking and I had to run it because it takes me 10 hours of straight work to replace it my self or $750 labor at a local shop. Finally the leak got so bad I was having to put in over a gallon a week and had to pull it out. They wanted me to send it back to them but wouldn't warrenty the labor if that one started to leak again. Between the two radiators, shipping costs, and labor costs, I've spent more than $3500.00 and I couldn't take the chance that they'd send me crap again. I paid out of pocket $500.00 at a local shop to fix the crappy soldering job and all I could get there warrenty to cover was $100.00. Better than nothing, now I got a lifetime warrenty on the work the local shop did. I want to know if anybody else out there has used this company and had the same problems as I have had. I don't want to poor money into an attorney for just myself, but if I could get together as manypeople as possible maybe we could form a class action and put this company out of business. They're committing fraud against us and it cost me alot of money because there product is junk and there warrenty isn't much of a warrenty when you have to pay almost $1000.00(shipping + labor) everytime their product starts leaking. Let me know other companies to stay away from, or even good companies that we should direct our business towards.

I've never used them bit I'm sure they get there cores from the same company that most of the other companies use I use a local outfit here in so cal sometimes you get crap just have to check it out when you open it up and send it back and get another one sounds like there pretty expensive wondering why you went with a three core we run 90 percent Pete 379 and always upgrade 3 row to 5 or six row depending on Tue truck and its only 950 for a core

No one ever pays for labor. Buy a starter over the counter and see what happens if you need to exchange it under warranty>the exact same thing.

Just like how when you buy a brand new $140,000 truck with warranty and it breaks down. Very seldom will they ever cover the tow bill.

Pretty much agree with everyone on this, warranty is a piece of paper, and usually a waste of ink. I am curious as to where they leaked, was it in the fin & tube area or the top or bottom area around the bolts? The ones I dealt with usually are just new cores and use your old top and bottom, if you use your top and bottom they should furnish the gaskets and sealant. Alot of times you need new bolts which falls back on you. If it's leaking around the top or bottom that you did then I would say it's not they're fault. Please don't think I'm taking sides, I'm only stating what my experiance has been. If you bought the complete radiator, then I vote in your favor. Good luck.

We always use new nuts, washers, and bolts. We also get the one piece gaskets and throw those roll out deals in the trash. And if it is a plastic ends radiator we "upgrade" to metal.

I bought a General radiator core back in '04... bought the best one because of a "better" warranty. I did the install myself... the Chi-Com bolts it came with broke so I used some good grade 5 hardware.

It leaked from day one right around the top of the core where it's welded to the header.

General told me to "keep an eye on it" as it would probably stop leaking. They also told me to use stop leak..Huh? I buy a premium radiator and I have to use stop leak?

After a couple years of this BS i told them I was done and wanted a new core. They told me they no longer off that model radiator core so they couldn't honor the warranty... thanks for nothin'.

I bought a radiator core from General in 2007, had a mechanic help me put it together that has done plenty of them, filled it up with coolant and when it got to the top of the core, the thing began leaking. Got a local radiator and welding shop to fix it, was leaking where 2 tubes meet the header plate, put it back in and held fine. So it cost me $50, plus the time and aggravation of installing it twice. I called General up and they said mail a copy of the bill, so I did. Later phone calls netted a response of, "You'll have to talk to so-and-so, and he's not here today." So their "warrantee" is worthless, the radiator seems to do ok now, but I am definitely never buying one from them again.

I think there may be a similar thread to this somewhere, I remember sharing this before, but I will gladly share it everytime someone mentions General. If they want to screw me over and get away with it, well, I'm lucky I got away cheaply, but I will help spread the word about them. General Radiator, the internet is a powerful tool!

I bought one from them and won't ever do it again. It's the 5 row but they aren't staggered and the cooling isn't what it should be. Plus it seems to be rotting out faster than normal.

Never used General, But I have used Detroit radiator and have nothing but good luck. Even on our Western Star in which was almost a month to get a rad. from the dealer, same with a cac for the same truck, detroit had it to me in 2 days at. Ive had numerous Pete radiators and cac and only ever had 1 problem, of which I don't believe it was there fault. Local radiator shop recored it and i believe they didn't like the fact we bought the core somewhere else (they said they didn't like it) and they said it leaked. Detroit sent us another one asap no questions asked, and they paid shipping both ways.
