It's a 2007 century.... I just had all drums & shoes replaced on all three axles and it still won't stop you under a load!! When they were installed the brakes they said all s-cams were good????? I replaced the foot brake valve and the air relay valve.. Did they really check the s-cams? Thats the only thing that I can think of !! Anyway got a idea?

    Thanks Bill

Are the brakes properly adjusted? Yeah, I know you have new stuff on BUT has anyone ensure that they ALL ratcheted up properly?

If they are not adjusted, better check your slacks. They could be bad, but rare to be all of them. Sounds like they were not adjusted after the replacement.

If your brakes were out of adjustment, you would run out of air quickly on a few applications, are the trailer brakes working?

Took it back to the same place and they said they were back out of adjustment.. They re-adjusted them and told me to bring it back in a couple of day's to re-check them again which I did. They said they were out a little again but not enough to cause the problems I'm having!! They also did a air PSI test to each wheel and all were at 100 PSI. Today I noticed while bobtailing to pick up my empty TRL the brakes worked great but once I hooked up to the empty TRL I had very weak breaks. Drove a 100 miles back with 40,000 LBS and it was terrible.. I unhooked from load and while bobtailing the brakes worked great? I keep thinking air-protection valve.. It's fine with -out a TRL!! Could the air protection valve cause this problem? For $65.00 I'm willing to put one on it and keep my fingers crossed.

    Thanks For The Help, Bill

Bill, if the truck is equipped with autoslacks and they don't ratchet up on their own they need to be replaced.

Before i started replacing slack adjusters,i would put 2 blocks 1 in front of drive tire 1 behind. Release your brakes. Grab the cams and check for slop. Could be the cam bushings are worn out.

Sounds like you may have a bad chamber or air line to a chamber leaking on the trailer. How fast are you losing air when you apply and hold the brakes down with the trailer attached? Get someone to listen for air leaks when you have the trailer connected with brakes pushed off on truck and trailer (and tires blocked) and foot pedal applied.

The initial poor brakes with truck only may have been due to the brakes not adjusted properly and this is another issue altogether.
