I have a 06 Peterbilt 387, that I just bought and have an issue with the fuel gauge. When, I fill up the tanks, the fuel gauge doesn't go all the way to the "Full" mark. It stays about a quarter way back from the "Full" mark, when the tanks are filled. My question is, for those who own a 387, is this normal for this truck? (BTW, it has dual 120 Gallon Tanks.) Thanks.

That's also the way my 2005 387 is. Never gets much past 3/4 full on the guAGE

might be the fuel sending unit thats in that tank. usually theres only one in the tank that the engine draws fuel from. its usually a pretty quick swap out.

I'm sure if someone buys a 120K+ truck they are going to insist the fuel gauge reads correctly. The gauges go bad fairly often. My 08-389 went through two.

I have an 01 and my dealer guy kinda rolled his eyes and said " That's just how they are " . FWIW.

My 2006 was the same way. I changed the sending unit with one of mine 379 spare unit it reads better but not correct. I use stick and milege count to make sure I have enough fuel before empty.

I have a similar problem in my 2009 KW w900L. When between 3/4 and 1/2, the fuel needle jumps all over the place (from a high to where fuel level really is down to laying right on E). Any time it is at 1/2 or lower or above 3/4 it reads normally. Anyone else experience this or have any advice?

Mine is doing the same thing, got a new sending unit I'm putting in today but for the price I'm sure its not gonna fix it cause thats just how it goes....at least its easy to change.

I have since fixed mine. Put a new sending unit. Had my mechanic do it for me, didn't cost much at all. Can't give a price because had a bunch of other little things done at same time. Now it reads pretty well accurate. It doesn't jump around all crazy anymore, but from F to 1/2 it drops down over like 300-400 miles. Then it goes down very slowly. It isn't perfect but it is better than it was before. I am not messing with it anymore. It's just a matter of knowing how much is really in there depending where it's pointing.
