I searched for a thread. I really did, but my search failed.

I'm looking at a 1994 Pete 377. Looks like a 3406, but I'm hoping it's the E version. As I understand, I can call the dealer with the VIN. But I don't know if it's the original engine. I'm fairly sure it is. Seems like '94 is the cutoff point.

I'm buying it from the owner of the company. For some reason everything here is mostly Cummins. He doesn't like the Cat. He says it's a fuel hog at 5.5 mpg.

What's the easiest way to tell which engine?

mounted straight above the starter will be the ecm box with 2 plugs going into the side of it. fuel pump mounted on front of engine on drivers side about frame rail height a big plate on front of motor that looks like an upsidedown number 8 (cover for the cam gear), air intake pipe bolted to the side of head instead of an intake manifold. wire harness from ecm to the valve cover plate. or the best of all the sticker if its still on there, or hasn't been painted over. all of these will tell you it is a emodel.

5.5 mpg is good considering company driver at the wheel.

A man who pays for his own fuel could squeeze over 6 out of it.

At least 6 mpg. Probably more with a Mr. Haney tune :biggrin_255:

If this engine turns out to be a B series, is decent mpg still a possibility? I'd like to hold out for the E engine.
