I searched for a thread. I really did, but my search failed.
I'm looking at a 1994 Pete 377. Looks like a 3406, but I'm hoping it's the E version. As I understand, I can call the dealer with the VIN. But I don't know if it's the original engine. I'm fairly sure it is. Seems like '94 is the cutoff point.
I'm buying it from the owner of the company. For some reason everything here is mostly Cummins. He doesn't like the Cat. He says it's a fuel hog at 5.5 mpg.
What's the easiest way to tell which engine?

If its a big block it will be a 5EK if an E. 94 could have a 3406PECC

maybe he is too blind to be a driver

5.5 mpg is good considering company driver at the wheel.
A man who pays for his own fuel could squeeze over 6 out of it. -
If this engine turns out to be a B series, is decent mpg still a possibility? I'd like to hold out for the E engine. -
The engine number is on the valve cover....

if it has six steel line's running into the head on the driver's side it's a b or c if not it's a e

Looks like it's a 3406E. Thanks guys.
