I've got a 2012 kw with Cummins isx 132k miles on it...fuel mileage is between 6.75 and 7.25 so no complaints there.
I'm currently using 3.5 gallons of oil in between oil changes at 15k miles.
Is this an average oil consumption for new Cummins engines?
Will it drop once I put more miles on it?
    Any feedback would be appreciated.

Not too familiar with newer ISXs, but 3.5 gallons is quite a bit IMO. Should be not more then .5 to 1 gallon for 15k. Bad rings maybe...

    nakoBilly Thanks this.

Ok I figured the same thing, but I've never seen any smoke come out the tail pipe.
I'm running a DPF..is it possible that the dpf is filtering the black smoke as well?
I've never had to do a parked regen....which tells me that the filter isn't getting clogged, which it should since excess smoke is getting trapped in there. In my opinion.
    Anybody running a similar engine?

    Thanks

I have an '06 ISX, so no DPF. At almost 500K I am now up to using 2 gallons between my 20K service interval. And I think most of that loss is coming out of the blow by tube, which on '07 and later engines is recycled back into the engine.

So for the low miles and amount of oil, I think you have a problem. No visible leaks anyplace?

No visible leaks whatsoever. So its most likely the rings then.
Why would they go bad with so little miles.
I've driven as smooth as possible, don't go over 1500 rpm my cruise rpm is set at 1450
Is there a way I can check where the blow by is going to?
The turbo intake side shouldnt have any smoke residue right? If the blow by is recirculating to the engine the turbo should have smoke residue I suppose.

I think your engine just needs some more break-in time. Sounds like you are babying the engine. Being gentle and easy on a new engine is a myth. To get a proper break-in the engine has to be under a good hard load. This is the only way the rings and valves will seat fully and properly. They need that heat and combustion pressure to push them into the liner wall and head to get that seating. Light loading and smooth operation is actually counter productive during a break-in period. The only time you have to be easy on an engine is when it is still cold, after that, drive it like you stole it! Try this for the next 15K and see how everything is going. After that, if you are still burning oil, try a different brand of oil. We have some customers that insist on Esso because their engine will burn Shell Rotella.

The newer engines have a filter for the blow by, you could check to see how it looks, or replace it with a fresh one and see how quick it gets cruddy.

You may have a or some rings that just have never seated properly.

Your blowing oil into the dpf. The filter cleans it out so you cannot see it burning. Get it looked at asap as the next will be endless regen burns and clogged dpf as it tries to process all that oil. Our fleet has 4 trucks with these issues I think they are looking at faulty valve guides as all 4 had metal filings in the filter within the first 100,000 k
