I got this run on my dump and pup trailer hauling at 79k. Its 640 mile round trip. Flat land and what to know if running at 1700 rpms will hurts my engine and drivetrain. I have a 3406b with a 9 spd overdrive with 4.33's and 11r24.5 tires. At 1700 I am at 70 mph. 65 mph @ 1625-1650 rpms. Thanks for the help

Won't hurt anything but fuel milage, these engines can run 21 to 2300rpm constant without harm.

If everything else in check then just your mpgs will suffer. If your at 1625-1650 rpm I don't think you'll pick up 5mph in 50-75 rpm with the 4.33s and tall rim and rubber.

You do not want to run it over 1550 continuously, slow down and smell the roses.
The truck is spect out to be an around town unit, above 1550, you are putting in a bunch of heat and burning a bunch of fuel for nothing.

If you can drive like that you will no doubt get better milage. I've got a b model in the truck I've drove for the last 14 years and I down shift at 1500 and 1800 in the mountains. We used to run 4.33's and 4.11's years ago with the 1693's, 3406A's and B's and cruised at about 23 to 2400 rpm's in order to run 80 & 90 mph and never had anymore trouble than any other truck would give, of course we didn't get great milage, but then it takes alot of hay to feed a big horse.

I used to run mine at 1800rpm's thru KY grossing 80k for years with no issues. Fuel mileage was over 6.5 during summer months. I changed the trans and dropped the R's down to 1500 @ 70 for peace of mind and to hopefully get better mpg's, it didn't work, but I do feel better about not running it so hard.

I don't start this run till next week. Right know I get 6.25 mpg running thru town mix highway & streets. So if I can stay at 6.5 I think I will be good. I will just cruise it at 65mph. That's what I am use to . I just wanted to save some time at 70 mph.

640mi. at 70 mph =9.1 hrs...640 at 65 mph =9.8 hrs aprox. 40 min. Try it both ways see if its worth it.
