I was hoping some of you guys could give me some ideas that might be causing my high egt, plus iam also having some power loss. When iam on cruise and turbo is about 0-12psi my egt is running about 775-825deg. Anything above 15psi is a solid 850. If iam on a hard pull it is pretty much 900deg, or more if i try to push it hard. Engine and water temps are ok. If it is hot outside the situation gets worse. My injectors are less than 1yr and recently had a cutout test. I took the truck to Cat to have a dyno test, they told me my wastegate was not working, and they couldn't test the truck until it was fixed. The wastegate is in the closed position so i don't think this my problem, or is it?

    Things i have done:
    Adjusted top end
    checked cac and boots
    injector cutout test
    fuel pressure test

    The engine setup is:
    Stock 475 tune
    Stock turbo
    PDI extrude honed manifold
    PDI stage1 camshaft

Have you verified gauge to be reading correct temp?

If the waste gate is closed you are overspeeding the turbo. Eventually you will break the shaft. I believe the stock turbo is small so it spools quickly at low RPM(emissions) and then opens the waste gate to regulate it's speed and pressure at higher RPM and engine load. I believe this contributes to high EGT. What you need is a properly sized, non-waste gated turbo. Mr. Haney should be able to recommend and sell you the proper one. I have a Borg Warner, it dropped my EGT about 150 degrees. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable than me will will post if I've misinformed you, but I believe what I said is correct.

I run 1500-1700 RPM up hills. The lower my RPM the faster my EGT goes up.

No i havn't. I probably shouldn't assume it is working. But my asumption is that it is. The reason being is the loss of power and high egt was fairly sudden and at the same time.

Is overspeeding turbo and boost psi two seperate things? Maybe a dumb question. I have been working hard to run low boost. Even when everything was running properly i almost never run max boost.

Also the turbo does not spool quickly, it is pretty slow.

Another thing to mention is when i put on the PDI manifold three weeks ago the turbo looked like it was in great shape on the inside. It looked brand new inside. Nothing broken, pitted,or chipped off. The shaft was rock solid, but the wastegate actuator is broken.
I have been wanting to get a tune and turbo from Mr. Haney, and i have all the money i need to pull the trigger. But i don't want to install all that on top of some other problems.

i dont see anything wrong with your numbers, except what is your boost at peek power? if you have the stage 1 cam and a stock turbo, i would get the stage 1 turbo. on a 100 deg. day mine runs around 700 to 850 deg. hauling heavy with the stage 1 cam and b/g turbo and haney ecm. are you sure the wastegate is shut?

I think they are related in this case. With the waste gate closed it will put out 10 more PSI if you mash on it, stock is limited to 26 PSI I think. Honestly 900 deg isn't that hot pulling a hill. I believe Cat says you can go to 1200 with the steel top pistons, but I don't like mine to get past 1000. It's another 2-300 degrees hotter on the engine side of the turbo. I think it's normal to have to back out of the throttle when it's hot outside to keep temps where they belong. It sounds like some of the ECM programming helps keep EGT lower by advancing timing. If you took it to CAT did they put in the latest greatest low NOX flsh files? My opinion is you shouldn't lose more than 2 PSI in 15 seconds when checking the CAC system, CAT spec is 5 or 7 PSI, so what was your actual loss? It takes fuel to make hot EGT so I'm guessing you have an air problem. Hope someone smarter than me posts. Your EGT is close to what my 6NZ runs.
