My Diesel turned Dark Green!

    I've been having problems with my Cummins engine in my Kenworth for a long time. First it was my EGR cooler, then it was my turbo. All of which was supposed to be fixed.

    Recently, however, I replaced the Turbo and it seemed to be running great! My fault codes went away and everything. But, all at once, my orange engine light started coming on again. My engine started bogging down, barely ran. In fact, I was idling one night and it completely shut off, and wouldn't start. My red engine light has only come on once. Now my fault code says "Turbo Actuator"...

    The night it completely shut down on me, I tried and tried starting my engine, but nothing worked. 2 service men and 11 hours later, I was told that maybe I had bad fuel. They siphoned some fuel into a bottle for me, and it was a dark greenish/navy blue color. Then, after putting some good fuel in my truck and replacing my fuel filters, the serviceman asked if I've added motor oil recently. I told him no, but after thinking about it, I had. I've still got some of the bad fuel in my truck, I haven't been able to get it drained out yet, but my truck still runs like crap...sometimes. Other times it seems to come out of it.

    What happened that made my fuel this color?
    Does it have anything to do with my Turbo Actuator?

    You know, when my truck actually runs like crap, I can hear it through my AM radio too, which was making me think it was an electrical problem.

    The sulfur in diesel fuel used to stop algae from growing in the diesel fuel. Our government in their infinite wisdom removed the sulfur, letting algae grow and also reduced the lubricity of fuel. Biodiesel is made from plant matter and is good eating for algae and further makes matters worse. I use Schaeffer Oil's Fuel Shock every 2 or 3 months. If you actually have algae in your fuel it's easy to go though 4 to 6 sets of filters. I try to add it when I know the truck will sit for a day. I fill up and add the Fuel Shock at a truck stop 15 miles from home so it gets through the fuel system but the tanks are still full so it kills everything on the tank walls. Nothing against bio diesel but it does grow algae easily.

    if your hearing static in your am when the problem occurs, you likely have a bad electrical ground for the ecm. follow your wiring harness and look for wires that break out of the harness and bolt to the body,frame,engine or batteries. everyone you find, simply loosen the bolt and retighten. you could have corrosion on one of the grounds and making your ecm freak out. a turbo should not really have the ability to keep an engine from running. as far as your green fuel go buy a crap load of additives and blast it. I personally put in all the used motor oil i can get my hands on. filter it out thru a funnel with scotchbrite pads in the funnel and pour it in the tank. u will never have algea and it gives a huge mileage boost and its free. my personal 4 wheeler runs on nothing but oil. havent bought diesel for it in 61k miles. runs perfect. by the way.... bio fuel is a joke. who the hell thinks its a good idea to put crisco in your tank.
