today i saw what looked like a small security guard shack AC system box mounted on top of the rear of the sleeper on a cornado, guy was going the opposite way couldnt ask him. My question is is there a alternative to an APU like a AC system which only needs battery from the truck to turn it over and it alternate current and stay on by itself? looked like if it was a 110V type system using the factory rear sleeper bunk ac system to collect cold air and blow it out thru stock vents, looks like it just needs to be plumbed into your factory sleeper system and cap off the tee which plumbs it with front CAB AC.

anyone know what im talking about pics, info and prices would be great.

how about these small split ac units? they makle 110V units that could run off the batteries problem is will it drain them???
is there a system that keeps itself charged up that doesnt use diesel fuel?

the split ac idea isnt to bad should cool the F out of the truck, problem is it would probably need another 3-4 batteries just for the ac system and then be wired to charge with truck altenator once getting low.

come on guy i want to eliminate the rear ac from working off my engine and be able to turn truck off when i get ot a customer and just let the aux AC unit kick on? for my 2-3 hours waiting here in fl the dam humidity has me soaking in sweat. just trying to come up with something other then an ugly arse APU sitting off the side of my truck, plus i dont want to pay the price for an APU.

i can get a 13,000 btu split ac set up which cools 350sq ft for about $500 brand new....

And you could get a small portable generator like the Honda EU2000 or Yamaha EF2400i for just over a grand and use it when you needed to to keep batteries up or power the unit. The Honda may not quite do a direct powering of the AC unit, but the Yamaha would. It can handle the startup surge of a 13,500 btu RV style AC unit. Easy to pack away and uses very little gas, which you can also carry on board as allowed by FMCSA regulations.

yea but then i will have an external ac unit along with a small generator in front of it, will look like if i was hauling all this stuff on the back chassis.

does anyone make a self charging electric run system for mobile applications?

That's exactly what I want to do next summer. No need to carry the extra weight in winter. A webasto is enough for winter heat. The plan is to have it on the floor of pass side and set it outside when using it. At night chained to the wheel or somewhere. They are heavy at about 70 pounds but it beats paying the fortune for an apu that will most likely malfunction anyway. Also I dont want that hanging off my truck.

As far as the "self charging electric run system" that, my friend, if you could figure out, you would be the smartest person to ever walk the earth, because that is called perpetual motion. Goooooooood luck.

I cant think about the name of it but they make a divice to isolate dc batteries from each other so u can kill 2 batteries and the truck will still start so u could use a inverter. with truck off and still have your truck start. I think its called isolater, they have used these in rv world for years.

correct ive done this for dual battery setups in sound system professional builds, id figure i would run this unit but it would need its own seperate batteries as i would need at least 2 to start the truck by itself and since my truck only has three it would more then likely kill the other battery if run off of it for a couple hours.

some of the systems ive seen are like this one:

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ductless-Mi...314043?pt=Air_Conditioner&hash=item257527847b

1000W 13 seer 115V which mean it will work with not to much of a convertor problem is how much current draw would it put on 2 or 3 batteries and how long could i run off them with truck off with still being able to turn on truck and be able to charge batteries. im thinking of just running a set of 2-3 batteries truck size just for the AC system alone.

i know that i would be able to mount inside part of system to top rear corner of the roof right to the roof rails, this would cool the truck without even needing the front cab ac on at all, and not only cooling it but freeze it i think its 12k BTU's in a flat top conventional truck make my old 3406b rest while im resting and ac pumping at rest stop.
i know this can be done....

would need at least a 2500W inverter to connecto to batteries.

Just add two batteries and upgrade alt. This should hold it use marine batteries.

I think with the yello optimabatteries you have plenty of power,$250 the piece,,last 2 or 3 time longer then normalbatteries
