Sorry if this is a green/stupid question, but before I got into trucks I was a car nut.

This time of year I anxiously look forward to the North American International Auto Show (or The Detroit Show)

The newest truck out right now (I believe) is the Widebody Kenny (k680?)

    So what's next?

Truck bodies have generally stayed almost unchanged for long periods of time. The T600, K100, C500, W900, and 379 all look almost untouched over nearly 20 years outside of a few tweaks.

The last decade or so has seen a huge influx of new bodies, with the T2000, T660, T680, T700, 386, 387, 587, 589, and 579 all popping up in the paccar class 8 family alone.

Freighliner seems due to dump a new polished turd off the line, since they've recently discontinued a lot of their more distinctive models (classic, century, argossy) and not put much back in their place (coronado, cascadia, and nothing in the COE range).

International seems preoccupied with sorting out the issues in their lonestar and prostar series.

I'd really like to see western star come out with a true aero model, and not just a T600 knockoff.

One thing you might be interested in is the work Bob Silwa is doing. He dressed up a T2000 into the Bullet Truck, and I believe he is trying to scrape together funds for an actual production model.

people say Volvo makes something new, but this year they introduced new FH cabover. Chassis is totally different (independent front suspention, r'n'p steering, ECAS, EBS with ESP), new cab suspention.... but cab is just restyled and facelifted cabine of mid 90-s FH12. So all VN cabs are made on base of FH cabs, so I sugest they gonna do all like in Europe. New chassis with facelifted cab. Really good thing is new interior

For the north american market, I'd say the Volvo VNL series. They have had the basic design since 98/97 with minimal changes made in the designs.

Don't even get me started on European/South American Cabovers.

I'd gladly take a Renault Magnum, or International's new Aerostar for the Brazil market.

BTW that voice over guy in the video sounds a lot like Jeremy Clarkson. "Volvo makes the safest truck,,,, in the wuuurld"

That is interesting, but it seems terribly impractical. How does the hood open? And what's the approach angle? You couldn't get into most truck stops with that nose. Can he get adequate cooling thorough the nose?

I'm not gonna be too harsh on that guy, but it took 3 years and he can't even report on average fuel econ numbers?

He said he was getting something like 13.4mpg grossing 65,000 coast to coast.

I don't see why he'd have a problem getting it into a truck stop. Its probably shorter bumper to mudflaps than a stretched long nose.

The truck uses a ducted radiator, and has lower cooling demands due to decreased engine load.

And the hood opens like this. Nothing fancy. The guy used to build race cars, and this is just a hobby of his. I particularly like the 10mpg cabover he built in the 80's.

I still like the idea of some sort of inflatable canvas extension from the end of the fairings to the trailer.
Hit a switch on the interstate (when you're not going to swing the trailer more than a few degrees from the tractor) and it closes up the gap between the two.

The cab is actually new and not a facelifted version of the old cab like they did in 2002.
