we're looking at a 2007 Columbia daycab, 228K miles, CAT twin turbo C13, Meritor RT40-145 rears, 4.11 ratio, Meritor front, Meritor 10 speed trans. with 1650 torque rating. They're asking $49,750. We've been told it doesn't have EGR or DPF, but we haven't looked at it in person. Are the Meritor transmission and rears as good as Eaton? We're thinking about getting the motor bumped up, will the transmission hold up? Any thoughts on fuel mileage? Any opinions welcome.

Cat did not call it EGR but their system did the same thing. But that said our 07 C13 pull great and mine got over 7MPG .

i have a Columbia with C 13 iam happy with my truck and mpg.only i think the Price for you Daycab is to high.ok the Milage is Low only 40 k is a good Price everytime the Cat is cheaper then Detroit in a Columbia

Thanks! That 7 mpg got my attention; that's what we're looking for. Could you tell me what transmission and gear ratio you had with your C13?
-
Thanks! We thought the price was a little high too, and this is the kind of info we were looking for before we made an offer.

Ours had 10 overs , nd 3.42 rear gears. No apus . Ran eastern half of country . Lot of Penn, Ky, Tn, Wva, and south east. 43000 avg.

4.11 is pretty steep. When I worked at Ryder, a tandem day cab Columbia with 10 speed and 3.91 ration barely got 4-5 MPG. Don't think you're going to get 7 MPG, you will be sorely disappointed. This was in Florida on flat ground too. Yes, that was a C13 too.

Had overlooked the 4.11 rear gear! Will pull great but no fuel mileage.

I have 3.36

Ryder doesn't get good fuel mileage out of anything. I used to work there, and their ridiculously poor maintenance combined with low speed limits, lowering power/tq ratings, and drivers who "stand on it and steer" with their foot on the mat the entire time all work together to lower their mileage. When I was there they were crowing about how a single screw daycab Freightliner with a 14L Detroit was getting 6 mpg, and couldn't understand how their predecessor was averaging 7mpg in condo tandem Columbias, with the same motor (dedicated account).
