    Thanks,

I was looking at it and think it will be the next addition to the truck.

I don't have an oil bypass system on my truck, I'd rather change it every 15000 so I can see what going on underneath my truck and grease the fitting, check hoses for leaks. I work on my own truck to save money and see whats going on. The only one you can trust to do it right is yourself.

Actually, you would benefit both ways. Even if you changed the oil every 15,000, a bypass or spinner unit would keep the soot and other contaminates out of the oil. The bypass idea is not just for those that are trying to extend the drains. The soot and other stuff can eat away at an engine whether the oil gets changed at 10,000 or 50,000. I run a bypass, but also change in the 20,000 mile area. Due to the way the loads, home, and such played out this week, I changed the oil at around 15,000. I sure don't wait that long to grease anything. I am under that truck greasing and doing close inspection at least every 5,000 miles. Just me. Not required I don't think. Just fits in my comfort level. On a large heavy diesel engine, there is always a benefit to using a bypass or centrifuge unit. And you are right, when possible, it is always better to do the job yourself.

I grease an service my truck every week and change my own oil also i dont service the spinner every oil change bout every 3 changes and i change every 10,000 reason being im in and out of the woods multiple times a day mud , dust all part of my day ! I also load and unload my self so i have lots of pto time bout 40 min every load thats why i change at 10,000.

severe duty schedule then makes sense in your case. I would do it then too.

I'll second that. You are putting on more hours than miles, so I would go with hours. And the severe duty in dirty environment adds to that. Now that is one operation I would not even consider running an engine without a bypass or centrifuge unit. And you are, so you are ahead of the curve.

I use Donaldson Endurance oil filters , sorry I don't have a link, but they are worth looking at, just do a google search, oh they are a little bit dearer but if I buy a box of 6 they work out only a few $ more each.

I average bout 350 to 400 hrs between changes my hauls average bout 80 miles one way then i always have some 3 to 20 mile hauls between them so without the egr soot and the spinner i am getting better oil samples that i did with my 2001 6nz cat that i had before .

These engines do NOT like the cold. I havent been able to get better than 7.3mpg since december, water temp never goes above 150, slightly higher on steep climbs.
Best I've ever gotten was 8.7 mpg during summer from Ft.Worth TX to Casa Grande AZ. admittedly perfect conditions no wind, 8000 in the box and running at 54mph in 12th @1400RPM
The worst I had was 5.4mpg in horrible cross winds with outside temp around 19 F.

    13 speed
    22.5 yokohama 517's

I have found two cracks on the CAC (which I tried patching with JB weld but that didnt work). And the EGR valve started sticking a couple of times when I had to lay into it hard.
What I have done so far is to put on a high flow muffler and air filter, no noticeable gains! So I wouldn't recommend doing that.
