Im going to be putting new drive tires on soon and was wondering if a 3 axle alignment is necessary? There is no irregular wear occuring on my steers or drives currently. I am going to put new shocks on as well. Could an alignment shop "mess up" the alignment? I just dont like messing around with something if theres no problem with it.

if there's no irregular wear or pulling and you didnt put any new steering linkage parts on i probably wouldn't worry about it.

I have ours aligned once a year. How long since your last alignment? Also think about it last time i did a 3 axle it was $150 id rather pay the $150 while your down for the tires than cost myself an hour or 2 while I'm under a load. Plus the increased wear on new drives.

OTOH, alignments can be very screwed-up. You can go from no odd wear, to needing new steers in 10,000 miles fixin' what don't need fixin'. For my money, MD Alignments shops are the best - call them and have them recommend a shop that uses their system. 1-800-617-5592 http://www.mdalign.com/

They have to put them dohicky things under the steers regardless to align the drives. They can easily tell you they are within tolerance which most likely they are unless you hit a big pothole. They won't charge you unless they have to fool with the front.

Yes one can make it worse if they aren't that slick. Usually those are company or truck stop mechanics. A good trained dealer tech knows what he is doing though.

Take your hand off the wheel and see how it tracks. If it tracks good and no sign of wear then I wouldn't worry about it. You'll know when you get them new tires on it. The shock replacement is a good move.

Not MD Alignments system... its an "as driven" alignment. As soon as they take the weight off of the steers, they're altering the conditions that the suspension encounters.

They don't take the weight off the steers. They put them plates under the steers with the full weight on them. That's a no brainer, you're truck would be pigeon toed, lol.
