New overhaul- How much will I get out of it?

After am overhaul you should get a minimum a million miles out of it. That all depend on the servicing, being done, Clean air, good oil changed regularly, good filters.
When you pick them up I would immediately change the oil filter, and change the oil, and filter at about 5,000 miles. That ensures the system is clean, do the first valve set at about 40,000 miles and then every 100,000 after that. Cat recomends doing the first set at the first oil change.

 

The expected life of a truck is 750,000 miles, some of the parts never make it while others will go beyond simply because of safety or engineering factors.

 

Wow I am one lucky guy then because I am about done with my second million and heading into my third and I am not planning on getting rid of her yet !!!!!!

 

I've said this before, and I will say it again, "Overhaul" is a general term that really doesn't specify what was done. They could have just installed new pistons and liners, and everything else is original. If that was the case, the overall engine life really hasn't been that much extended, but more or less just "freshened up". To best answer your question, what all got replaced?

 

Have seen running the dingle berry down the liner and reringing , and roll in new bearings , be called overhaul!

 

If you want it to last you need to delete the egr ! To much soot in the oil on this engine acts as a fine grinding compound will wear out the cylinders and pistons as well as entire valve train ask me i know i have one was wore out and using 3 gal of oil a week and i change my oil at 10,000 miles . Best thing i have done is egr delete and installed a spinner ii bypass filter at the least do the filter for piece of mind before egr delete and spinner soot in oil was 3.9 ppm after 3 changes and filter has decreased to .8ppm thats a big differance to me for what its worth.

 

I agree with grump, the EGR engines do not last as long. I've torn them down with ~750,000 for blow-by/oil consumption and the liners looked like mirrors. Do not count on a million miles on that engine.

 

Oh forgot to say mine had 410,000 when it started to drink oil but for what i do that be roughly 700,000 road miles.
