I have a 2003 xl classic with detroit 500 12.7l. I am having problems with the abs system. the tractor abs light is on and will not go off. when the mechanic plugs in his computer to access the truck computer is will not even read the abs system ecu. the abs computer has power and the light stays on constantly. the truck does not do the "clicks" when you turn the key on either. any ideas?

How do you know the ABS has power? The ABS warning light comes on automatically without the ABS. The ABS turns off the light. So if the abs was not even plugged in the ABS light would still be on. Since you cannot hear the "clicks" at start up, and it can't be connected to with the computer is a good sign the ABS module is not powering up, or totally failed.

Did the mechanic check the terminal at the ABS ecu's end for power and continuity? My first bet would be a broken wire/bad connection there, then a bad ABS ecu.

he did check the ecu for power going to it. it does have power going to it. Also, he took an ecu off another truck and plugged it in. Same thing happens. The light lights up and won't go off.

Ok, there is battery power, usually on two wires, ignition power on another, and usually two or three grounds. Make sure the power and ground wires are all load tested with a headlight bulb or something, not just a multimeter. Somethings is still wrong there with it not powering up.
