Last fall I had new king pins put on the truck. Got the truck back & the ABS light kicked on.
Took it back to the shop that did the install & they just told me the sensor in the left front was(now)bad.

Replaced it & that changed nothing. Light was still on.

However, when you unhook the trailer, the light turns off.
Hook trailer back up & it kicks on the trailer & truck ABS light as soon as you touch the brake pedal.
Trailer light turns off immediately or as soon as the truck is rolling, but truck side stays on.

I do not know even where to start & really do not want to drop it all off at a shop to chase gremlins.
NO ABS issues present before king pins were replaced.

    Truck is a 2003 Pete 385 & trailer is a 2007 Miller.

    Any ideas would be appreciated.

I would still say front sensors. could be that they and have seen this so many times...did not clean the sensor hole very well and did not get it in properly so its not reading correctly.

I changed the new sensor out & used a scotch brite pad before putting it back together. They did not on either side.

Something else I forgot to note. The fuse on the block for ABS is a 30 amp one that the system is blowing. Have checked the wiring & do not see anything obvious where I can find it. Is there a way to check the module?

Pigtail connections. If you're blowin fuses they're gettin over loaded. Ground and or abraised wires usually are the problem when blowing fuses, in my experience.

Figure out and fix whatever is blowing the fuse. Like 3rd gen said check the pigtail, then the trailer wiring. Is there another trl you can hook to? If you don't have a the problem with a different trailer, that pretty much indicates the problem is in the trl.

Good idea on hooking to another trailer. Only own this one & the obvious escaped me.

Will check pigtail, it is probably due to be changed anyway. Bought the truck in 2010 & have not changed them or the airlines. So who knows how old they are. With a car trailer they get moved around quite a bit more as there is more deck space between the back of cab & trailer.

This is the melted, shorted mess of the tractor side socket wiring harness that I had to replace. It was tripping the ABS light, as well as screwing with the parking lights, brake lights and turn signals in general. I'm lucky that I heard the breaker clicking in and out, and it didn't burn the truck to the ground while I was sleeping. Even with the 30 Amp breaker clicking in and out, the wiring harness was too hot to hold in your hand, and the plastic and rubber at the connector was smoking.

The ABS line to the trailer is always hot - the only way I could get the smoke to stop was to d/c the batteries. I had to disconnect the trailer harness at the firewall so I could move the truck to the shop and get it fixed.

I get problems like this when my cable assembly is getting worn out. But I also see random turn signal arrows on my instrument panel. Ever try a new cable? I go through two a year, but I also hook to several trailers a day.

This quick fix all went well. Need a different wrench end to get the air lines off & as soon as I pulled on the cord it shattered. :angryfire:

Replaced the service airlines, power cable & new 7 pin socket. They were (over)due regardless.

Found one ground that was the issue for the fuse blowing, fixed.

The ABS light however, might as well be a beacon in a harbor. Yep, it is still on :angry4:

Going back to the shop that did the king pins & plug the truck in to their system at 9 am.
