Storing a 97 3406E long term. what I have done so far cap the exhaust, Kathon in fuel and drained the coolant, Question on draining the coolant engine is 560k miles used antifreeze with the Cat additive ok to do that or will gaskets and rubbers shrink\swell from lack of said coolant?

    Any other suggestions on storage?

    thanks,
    Fred

I could store it between some chassis rails and in front of a RTLO20918 for you !
Lol on the serious side I have just installed one that has sat for two years with minimal steps taken for storage, and the fuel gallery through the head had corroded quite bad, the check valve had all corroded and was not doing what it was suppose to do, I'm waiting for injectors to fail,
If you can some how stop that from happening the rest should be ok, waterpump seals and others may dry out , there must be some products out there to help with all that

Is it out of the truck ? If not I would put fresh pure coolant in , with a good additive . Should stop any rust in side . Say turn the crank while spraying WD 40 into the intake . Should coat the walls good . Best of luck.

How does one drain the fuel rail\gallery?

Be better to leave the coolant in? with the proper mix of chemicals of course.

It is in the truck, just trying to pickle it for 8 month storage.

Also looking for proper tire treatment to reduce the rot and cracks...

    thanks for the help...

Ok , thanks ! Put fresh coolant in , with additives (oc), jack up all wheels so they are off the ground. A good fuel additive should be fine , for the fuel side . If just 8 months , I would start her up , about twice a month , let her get up to temp , then let her idle for 10 mins. Seals stay lubed , pistons rings stay free, fuel flowing , battery's stay good , etc. should be like the day you pulled her in . If out side put trash bags over the tires , block the UV rays.

My trucks sit Nov through May every year. I disconnect batteries, throw some moth balls in the glove box, some poison underneath, and start them every few months.

Should I be conerned on draining the fuel rail line?

I will not be around to start it so it will just sit.

Several of ours have sat all winter never touched and never had an issue. I would not worry about it.

If it has fuel in it you should be fine, I mis understood your first post, the one I talked about the engine had sat on the ground with no fluids in it.
