Don't expect much power and longevity. If so, keep some head gaskets handy along with head bolts. The heads like to squirm on the old 855's as stock, even worse when juiced. I'd say somewhere around 400-450 max. As far as the clutch goes, I think only 12-1400 ft/lbs was the highest rated clutch if its got the old bowl style flywheel. Upgrade to the flat style and get a heavier torque clutch.

Maybe Smokin Cat will be on here and give some input. He's pretty sharp on the old Cummins....

I'm lookin to buy it it's. 1987 ih 9370 with 700,000 miles with 95% rubber and brakes $8500 pretty good body and interior shape. No heavy hauls just as a farm toy And was considering hittin up a local pull twice a year. Just was confused between a n855 vs big cam kinda a rookie as far as power and reliability especially with the 9 speed. Like I said just a farm toy what do ya think?

87 is a Big Cam....Big Cam IV probably. Also prob has Lo flo cooling which gives trouble sometimes. I guess if you're going to play with it, then it's ok. It's just $8500 is a little pricey, IMO
