Hi everyone. I have a 2003 12.7 DDEC 4 430/500hp that the turbo needs replacing. I have already ordered a Pittsburgh Power manifold to put on at the same time since I'm in there.

I got it on good word that a DDEC 3 turbo would be a bolt on easy upgrade over a stock turbo. Its supposed to be slightly bigger and an easy bolt on. I called Detroit to order one and they can't order one without a serial number for a DDEC 3 engine so they are of little help.

Eventually I will put a ECM or a P.P. powerbox in the truck, but not for a few more months.

So my question is what part # is the turbo for a DDEC 3 so I can tell Detroit exactly what to order me. Or what other turbo can I bolt on that will work good both now with stock ECM and still work good with a tuned ECM later? Also suggestions on where to order it from if its not a right from Detroit part.

FYI I run 80k almost all the time pulling flatbed all over the plains and the Rockies.

    Thanks much!!

Thanks. After you posted it I googled it and see lots of good reviews. I just ordered one up from these guys and it should be here monday or tuesday. lots cheaper than detroit wanted for a stock replacement. Hopefully it will be a good match for the PP exhaust manifold. I think i'll pull the muffler off the old frieghtliner at the same time and free it up a bit. What kind of Hp gain do you think I'll see from all that? I'm thinking 50 HP would be nice and hoping for at least .25 mpg gain.

Just an update: after upgrading the turbo and manifold I now get .5mpg better fuel mileage consistently. Very very nice payoff there. I can also pull hills a full gear taller than before.

Did you ever get the pp box or a ECM tune. And if you did any more MPG's gained. I already have a ECM tune with 15% more fuel. And it drives nice.
Now I just got that 171702 turbo and ordering the pp manifold. Should be installing in a few weeks.

I did not get the PP box yet. I called them at the time and they said all their boxes were undergoing emissions testing and they didn't know when they would be back on the market. I guess I'm not sure if they ever did come back on the market. If they are now for sale again I don't know of they had to change anything or if they are the same great PP boxes from before. It would be worth checking into. My truck is parked all winter so it hasn't really been on my mind to look into it I guess.

Skip PP box and talk to rebel127 like he posted.

I like the idea of being able to change the power on the fly, a safety fuel cut back if you get to crazy with the power. But everyone has there own opinion.

Your train of thought is good. What the PP box does is not good.
