So I got a deal on the CT660 Cat truck I couldnt pass up. Tri Axle dump with the Cat automatic transmission with the 13L motor, we run them right at 84,000lbs 12 hours a day. This was the first week running the truck and we got 5.13 MPG. This is the first truck we have got that doesnt have a 15L motor and it got almost a full MPG better. That makes me happy when I pay to fuel these up and makes me think that these new trucks (first one with EGR or anything all the other trucks are 2006 or older) might not be that back. If I could average even 1/2 MPG better all the the trucks that would save be about $18,666.00

Now lets get to the problem.... I had 3 different drivers in it last week. Each one ran for two days in it. They loved the transmission, liked the truck, were not big fans of the motor. They all said it was slow to take off and didnt seem to have power till around 1600 RPM. Can we do anything to make these better? I drove it today and it seems like it is slow to get moving in the lower RPM... We tried the Mack with the 13L motor and they would put this to shame on the low RPM but all of us think it is about the same over 1500RPM...

Any one programming these yet? It is programmed right now for 475HP and 1700TQ. It feels like you need to wind the piss out of it to get it moving... I would say it is just that it is a 13L but that Mack we tired was not like that at all but they also wanted $24,000 more for that truck and they were almost the same spec other than motor and transmission they were the same.

Any one help me out here? Will it get better? It has about 2500 miles on it so will it get better as we run it and get some miles on it?
    Any help would be great!

MAN engines always had low torque below 1000rpm , and starting with them on excavation with 100-110k with steep inclines (30,40 or more%) is bit tricky

here strongest engine of d26 familly have 540hp and 2500nm-1850lb-ft i think it is not smart to go above this in tipper truck

Hope Cat has figured out that engine and you don't suffer the fate of a Maxxforce.

The horror stories I have heard with the maxxforce engines you may have saved that $24,000 in lower repairs and less downtime.

I know a guy that has two now. He has had them for about a year and has between 35-40k miles on both of them and has not had any problems yet. He loves them but he also runs around with just loam so he isn't hauling the weight we are but it is good to know that he has had no problems. I have see guys saying the engine brake is no good but it has been great with us... My drivers and I feel it is better then the Detroit 12.7 we have you just need to keep the RPM up...

So is does anybody have a flash or ECM tune for these? Even a EGR delete for after the warranty is gone?

I think most of the attention goes into solving the existing tech problems, let alone power boosting.

besides, it's not a 6nz, so the "cool kids" don't want to touch it

When I first heard the Cat trucks were only coming out with the 13L motor as the biggest option I scratched my head. Granted that you can have a 15L motor only putting out 475 horse but you aren't using all the motor to make that 475 horses, making available room to program up if you find out you need more pony. The way I understand those 13l Cat's is they're already running pretty tuned up to make that same 475 horses. Another thing too is with this being your first 'emissions' truck they do run different. Our 2 truck fleet is a 07 T800 4 axle dump with a 475 Cat (MXS) and 18 speed and a 96 378 Pete 3 axle dump with a 470 Cat (5EK). The newer truck my dad drives is supposed to have a little more power, but my older truck will run circles around it all day long. It's just the nature of the new emissions trucks.

Love to see a picture of that truck though, I remember looking at the Cat trucks a few years back at the con-ag expo in Vegas, I remember the cabs were very well laid out and comfortable but all they had was a tractor down there.

I think CAT's friends at the EPA botched up the 15L option. When the EPA said the 15L didn't pass the emission check & Navistar had to go with Cummins for a big motor.

Still hope CAT comes up with something in the future, do not like all the mfg motor specific deals they have now. Still like the idea of a few years ago getting what ever motor you wanted in the platform needed.
