Hey guys, I installed a center bag lift kit on a spread axle reefer and Im having ABS problems. When I lift it after a few miles the trailer abs light comes on and stays on. It only does it when its up. Ill shut off the truck and drop the axle and no more light, even down the road no light. I must also mention im not happy with the ride height of it. It only lifts about 2-3 inches at most and I got about another 4 atleast of clearance still on top. Its all it can go up, the installer says it hit the stops inside the airbags when the deflate. Not sure whats going on with the abs though. Im thinking since its not that far off the ground it hits sometimes and throws the sensor off? Not sure how exactly abs works. Any Ideas? Thanks

The abs is coming on because the lifted wheels are not turning. Have a trailer dealer reflash abs module to remove abs from the lift axle. Had the same problem.

If he does that he will no longer have abs on that axle. No abs on one axle of a spread will virtually guarantee he will end up with flat spots on the tires of that axle. I had a spread with a front lift axle. The abs worked on it while down without causing the light to come on while lifted. You need to find a knowledgeable trailer/axle/abs person to tell you what to do.

You have just learned that what appears to be simple is not always that way. Different lift axles are required for different applications. Some provide very little lift. Others can go up as much as 8-10 inches. It is all in the design of the suspension itself and the lift mechanism. Again you need to research and or find a knowledgeable person to help you out here. You can get more lift but at what cost I cannot tell you.

Do not tell anyone that I told you this little trick. There is an inexpensive valve that you can install on the lift axle. When you lift the axle this valve will cut the air to the service brakes on the lifted axle. This prevents flat spots on lifted or partially lifted axles or axles that do not lift enough. By the way it is illegal to put this valve on so don't be surprised if dealers act stupid on the subject (they may not know about the valve or be willing to advise you on how to do something illegal).

I looked up some wabco info and it said YU2 BU2 must be on the lift axle. Im going to switch some wires around and see what happens.

Mechanic was right there are bump stops inside of bags, you need to change to bags without them to get it higher.

I've seen lifts with a switch. When it lifts it temporarily disables the abs on that axle. When you put it down the abs re enables.
