A friend is swapping a C12 for a C14 in a Freightliner. Apparently the tractor cab side is altogether different in respect to one engine vs. the other engine. He cannot simply plug the harness for the C14 ecm into cab and have it work properly. I hope this explanation makes sense. I am thinking someone will need more info than he has provided me with. Any suggestions?

If he is removing an early C-12 with a 40 pin ECM plug and replacing the engine with a 6NZ C-15 with a 70 pin ECM plug. Then he will need a wiring harness adapter. Cat sells them for this conversion. Now one of the problems I've seen people run into is the main power source to the ECM. The 40 pin ECM doesn't have as high of an amperage fuse to supply the positive 12 volt to the ECM. The 70 pin ECM can burn the fuse out. Then people wonder why the engine won't start afterwards.
