Never thought I'd buy an automatic.Truck I just purchased had everything I wanted but was a autoshift.Took it for a drive and fell in love with it.Rides and shifts smooth. There are a few quirks to get used to but love it so far.On the other hand they are quite expensive to repair.

Best way to get around the backing problem is ride the brakes and pop back and forth from neutral. Hit the dock in neutral then reengage revere.
They are good trans when they are new. As thye get old you will be chasing down small electronic problems. Even if you have to replace ti early though, its less jerking on engine and drive train then an manual so you will save the truck. -
I drive a 2013 pete with the eaton auto shift well with 51000 miles it just did crusing down i64. I was pulling 30000 lbs of grocery in a refer trailer so weight wasnt a issue

My father bought an ex sni with the auto transmission to work out of the ports in the northeast he felt in love with it,he doesn't really know how it will be in the winter since you have less control of the gears

I have been driving a 2011 Volvo I-shift since purchasing it off the lot. Fell in love with the demo I drove. This truck is a dream to drive. I do know how to shift. Have driven company garbage and my first truck as an O/O was a standard. However as one ages sometimes one has to make changes. This I-shift has allowed me to continue to drive despite some aging issues like sore joints. It is like driving a big car. Smooth on backing. No herky jerky. Can touch a dock very smooth.
Scania man and deming807 Thank this. -
Yea was driving been driving for 3 hrs and then without warning it sounded like someone dropped a hand full of quaters inside the transmission

If I was in the market for a new ride with an auto in it, I would opt for the new Allison TC10 TS transmission. No computer trying to manage a manual transmission. Pure torque converter automatic. I realize in the past, that was an mpg killer. Not so with this new one. Very competitive with the other auto shifts. Some of the videos of this trans in action are very impressive, even when put to the test against the autoshifts. Just one more product offering in the mix, but a viable one for some.
bigred81 and Scania man Thank this. -
Alison is rare and outdated. No sense in buying it.

There are only a few slight differences between a standard eaton and an ultrashift. The housing is basically the same except for a few modifications. The guts are identical. The xy shifter is a bit pricey at around $700 but is quite easy to change. 4 bolts and a cpl electrical connectors that can be swapped out in a trk stop parking lot in about an hr with a basic socket set. All in all I'm very pleased with mine. I did unhook all the plugs and clean real good then plugged back up with dielectric grease.
