Does anybody have a rough idea what it costs to regear both rears? And is there a huge cost difference between Rockwell and Eaton rears? I called a couple shops and was quoted between 4500-6500 to regear both rears with 3.36s does that sound about right? I was figuring maybe $3500 on the high side of it maybe I'm crazy and wanting something for nothing but $4500 seems high and $6500 is flat out insane. Truck has Rockwell rears under it could that be where my added cost is?

Rockwell rears are the cheaper more common drive axles. If its 40's it would be $2500 for both reman rears. The rest is pulling and then installing.

THe truck I just bought has rebuilt rears, paperwork he gave me said the one reman gear set was 2000$ and the other 2300$ for the parts and that was switching from 3.90s to 3.55s. Why you want to regear?

There probably isn't a 5 mph difference between the two!! However you can buy a ring and pinion set reasonable! The expensive part of working on rearends is the bearing kits, axle gears & spider gears!!

You may also check salvage yards for pullouts! In Houston Texas all the salvage yards have plenty high geared stuff! I would figure the rest of the states have just as many! I put 2:93 ratio in my 99 Pete!!!

That sounds about right, The previous owner of my FLD dumped 4300 for both rears.
