I'm not sure how it worked before, but I just replaced the line from compressor to dryer BC it was clogged with "carbon". Builds air great now, but now once the gauges show 120psi the dryer purges and the gauges drop 5-10 psi and it builds air bk up and purges again. Constantly. What could cause this? Maybe the valve in the bottom of dryer? Governor? I just spent enough on the new line that I don't want start throwing $ at it. Oh, and the line I replaced went from braided to a coupling that turned into regular air line. I replaced with one piece braided line. I don't think that would "hurt" anything though..

I'd say the purge valve is sticking. You can try persuading it to stop by tapping on it. Not an expensive part, and not hard to replace. If watching the pennies, you can always remove it and see if something is holding it open slightly.
MartinG3Truks Thanks this. -
Your governor has gone bad. Not very pricy part each time the governor cuts out the purge valve is to spit.
-
Was the purge valve itself when mine was doing that, so could be either or, by the sound of it.

Just put a governor on it. Problem still remains. The governor is mounted on the dryer itself which is mounted to the tank. Must be new design. Now I'm wondering if I put the fitting in the right place. There's only one fitting that runs to the compressor. And looking at the dryer, I can't see how just the bottom valve assembly would come out to replace it

Check for leaks in the small line that runs from the air dyer to the compressor. If there's no leaks in the air line it could possibly be the unloader kit in the compressor.

Just replaced the unloader in compressor and the purge valve in dryer. Problem is still there
Running out of ideas. I'll check for leaks in that line -
What kind of motor is it?

Detroit s60. O7 freightliner

Hopefully you've got someone to help you so you can check for the airleak without the truck running.
