Been looking a getting my truck possibly done in the next several months, i really wasnt sure bout them but the more ive read here the more i think its a good upgrade.
When my kid was in scouts we had to build the mini derby car, some guys just popped in the little axles and wheels and called er good, i went a step further and got a upgrade kit online, it had these polished axles and inner wheels and a tube of this graphite coating for the axles.. We ended up winnin every race wheels would spin forever with no resistance.
i believe its a sound concept, but i guess the big question is how long these gonna last. Im trying to find someone to do it in iowa found one place in sully,ia wants 2k otd 3 axles thats seals and everything. He said guys were getting
1/10 gain until they started using stemco nut, orig nut would throw the play off upon tightening now he said they are seein 4/10 gain.
what have have some others paid? And has anyone used a shop in iowa? My local shop is good but with aftermarket stuff they get deer in headlight look and if i do it im not having someone do it for the first time on mine
ive done enough research to know it can be an improvement and mpg gainer if done right

I know that micro bluing engine bearings and pistons have been done in cat motors with power and fuel economy gains.

That shop in sully is pretty decent. I know several people that have used it. They have put on a lot of lift axles for people around here and they had a PDI tune done for a friend of mine. I have no personal experience with them cause I do my own but a lot of people like them. Haven't heard any complaints.

That guy that quoted me has done 6 motors now, claims really good results.

I purchased the micro blu wheel bearings, todate, after 5400 gallons, im observing the same mpg. (6.51 mpg) Installed, by a Detroit diesel location, they quoted 8-10 hours of labor to do the work. In the end, it took approx. 13 hours.
double yellow Thanks this. -
Where can a guy purchase microblue engine bearings near central Indiana?
Any rough idea what the parts would cost? -

Its all mail order. 3 axles-$950.00Flightline Thanks this. -
My mechanic told me it would be about 2 hours per wheel for the labor .. the bearings themselves were I think $1040 shipped. On my last truck I saw 0.3 mpg on my 3 axle KW, and 0.4 on my 2 axle reefer. Not sure why the trailer out-performed the truck like that .. but from what I have been told it's normal. It is on my list for my current truck to put the bearings in again. If you are skeptical and own your own trailer, I would advise doing the trailer first, at a bit less cost. Think trailer bearings were $650 or so for 2 axles.

Steers and trailer its about 1.5-2 hrs per corner in labor. I dunno what kind of time for the drive axles.
Parts and install cost for my trailer was about $2k.
I feel ya on getting it done right the first time. I just had to have the end play adjusted a 3rd time.
The shop was nervous about setting it that loose. I had to convince them that its a Stemco spec and they'd have done extensive testing before making it a spec.
BTW, had mine done in Blackfoot, ID.
