fuel mpg depends on tranny, tires, and gear ratio. My t600 which has c-15 mbn only gets 5.73 mpg because it is severve duty (frac sand) and has pto. If you want to take new truck with def system, take freightliner Cascadia. My friend got 8.9 mpg when driven 68 mph at Indiana-ohio toll roads. It has Detroit dd15 on it. I would recommend take freightliner Cascadia with Detroit dd15. be sure what gear ratio u should use.

If you go to Freightliner they can tell you the mileage loss from a lot of things you put on you truck things like sun visors, using side fairings, 1/2 fenders.
Ever truck manufacture can give you those numbers, the engine , it has a tag that gives you the number on MM3 fuel used to make the max HP, that is important.
They can give you the chart with the speed and RPM for different transmission, rear gear, and tire combinations. They can give you the charts on the HP needed to go at different speeds.
A truck that is spec'd for the flats to get fuel milage is not what is needed for the mountain states. buying a low HP unit for fuel milage may exclude you from certain weights and trailer combinations in different states and provinces.
    Just a thought!
