Can anybody tell me what needs to be done to a RTLO14713a to make it a 18713A? I'm wanting to crank up my N14 from 460 to 525 and am concerned about damaging the trans, some people have told me the only difference is an oil cooler on the heavier rated tranny all the other internals are the same, any truth to that?

I cant be sure about old select, but on some new engines torque limiting at low gears may be used

With such a small jump in hp you won't hurt the trans at all. I had a FRO16210C in my old truck pushin 750hp at the tires with no issues. You just have drive the truck responsibly. With the wrong guy in the seat if you've got 450hp or 850hp he'll destroy a truck.

    Cetane+ Thanks this.

I am not a gear guy but I remember when the bigger torque engines came out we had guys come in saying their clutch was not releasing properly, it ended up being the input shaft was twisted, and the plates could not slide back to release. I have seen cases crack.
Eaton will not bite you, ask them they are willing to give advise, that in the end is cheaper. They have representatives that are more than willing to work with you.
You can drive a truck as gentle as you wish if you are pulling a load and one wheel slips then grabs, to late, parts become junk. Then you have nothing as a core.
HP does not kill the tranny the torque does.

There is NOTHING you can do to make a 14 series into a 18 series. the cases are different where the countershaft bearings go in and theres a few other issues that come into play also if tryin to go from a 14 to and 18 for torque. you will more han likely have to fnd a 18913 used or new buy it out right. most rebuild shop wont even accept a 16 series for core towards and 18 series. The info about the cooler is incorrect. alot more difference than just that..... good luck.
