My driver called said the engine is cutting out and throwin dummy lights on a hard stop....,had her stop at a t,a to print out the codes the shutdown is for low oil pressure 16psi .....called freightliner in nashville is one week to get in wth...,called dealership in jomo they said their is an oring in pickup limes in pan causing this or it could be a pressure sensor .....same general idea okc and jomo gave me same idea and can get me in but is it really that risky to do the 600 miles oil level still good.......,gonna call detroit soon as they open but prob same story

Great we arevgoingbthrough detroit troubleshooting step. because the problem is not showing itself at the shop once everything else clears we are going to assume it is intermitent sensor failure and pray replacing that sensor fixs the issue just glad its not a really low oil pressure

Well, if your driver brakes hard and it happens, why would they think its a sensor? It's not like the driver is on a bumpy road when it comes on.

Aparently there were a few other situations to cause it but they were unable to recreate the fault....,,they went through detroits diagnostic steps or something and were able to rule everything out but the sensor and it was quite intermitent....,.here is hoping they were correct

A loose or broken wire at the sensor could cause this. I had this happen one time & I wiggled the wires right at the oil pressure sensor & the wire was broke with only a couple strands holding on.

We are currently working on a DD15 engine (our first one) and would like to know how to manually check the oil pressure? Any help would be appreciated. :biggrin_25525:

I have the same problem. While i am driving there is no problem but as soon as i let the gas pedal off and about to stop or the engine goes idle the low oil pressure light comes on and check engine light comes on and stop engine light comes on and the engine shuts off. Start it once again and it runs fine unless i have to stop the truck again .
Changed the oil temperature sensor and also changed the oil pressure sensor but the problem is still there .can anybody please give me any idea or did any one else have the same problem ?

What was the code number that you were given. I'm going to login to my Detroit right now and see if I can find any info on this issue.

Are you using Detroit filters (oil filter service kit P/N: A4721800509) or aftermarket filters, and has there been any filters added to the system like frame mounted long service filters. check the top of the oil filter center stand. If you can see a x shaped piece and it is not taller then the outside of the stand the bypass valve is missing and was likely broke off during a filter change. To replace it the oil filter housing will need replaced.
