Does anybody know if the PRE EGR 14 Liter Detroit had the same problems and worries with the bull gear that the 12.7 did?

Im not a motor expert, but the concesous i have read from this forum is that the bull gear problem is on the whole s60 series. I could be wrong though so don't take that to the bank. I always idle at 900 rpm and have never had any trouble.

Are you sure you have a preegr 14l and not a 14l the had the egr deleted? Its pretty rare to find a 14L s60 pre egr as most of the pre egr were 12.7.

yep, if its 01, then that def pre egr since egr was 03ish. And if its a 14l from that year, it never had egr. That's a great find....if there is nothing wrong with it, buy it lol.

From what i understand (again, not a mechanic)...detroit wanted to reduce idle fuel consumption. The problem is this also lowered oil pressure and thus left the bull gear without oil. By idleing at 900-1200 rpm (depend on who you talk to) your oil pressure should jump up. I use 900 because my chk engine light comes on during extended idle at 1000. Again this is hearsay from other driver and what i have read on this forum. The only actual experiance i have int his area is that my motor hasn't died yet ideling at 900. The s60's do pretty well with cold starts, so you can drastically reduce idle and bull gear problems with a 1000 dollar bunk heater.

why would your check engine light come on at a 1000 idle?

I'd say it's maybe some sort of safety that they have set up in the engine?

Not sure, prob bad sensors, there are a few senareos that it comes on and none actually seem to be bad.
