I've been reading the forums here quite a bit lately and have read a lot of threads about running older trucks. However the term seems to mean different things to different people. A lot of this talk is of corse relating to running trucks built pre- 2004.
So with that in mind it got me wondering about parts availability with older trucks. Can you still get OEM cab/chassis parts for Trucks like the Kenworth T600A, K100, or International and Freightliner COE trucks built from the 1980's -2000's?
I know drive train parts should be available across the board sense there is some degree of standardization up to the point of the proprietary engines that are being pushed now. I was looking at what the parts situation would be for an International 4070B and it appears to be mostly wrecking yards and parts trucks. Interior parts seemed especially non existent and then you have the obsolete wedge brakes.
I'm assuming the traditional styled "hood" trucks like the 379 and W900 are much easier to source parts for as the models have been running for longer periods of time. I've also seen reference to rumor that Peterbilt may still be producing 362's for the export market so it would seem that
parts for those would be more available.

If you were going that old ie mechanical motors, I'd only go with a W9 or 359/379 as there is a huge following for them, and somebody has already needed that part you need and knows where to find it. A FLB cabover would be my second thought as there are a bunch of FLD still out there and alot of the interior parts are the same.

I have no problem getting parts for my 85 359 from peterbilt. Have aftermarket sources to but anything I want is available. Most anything is in stock

so, in other words. I shouldn't think about buying one of late 80 ' kenworth or fl's for sale in my area. or early 90's fl's.
I'd actually prefer 94 or newer though. as I don't want to deal with the older a/C's conversions. -
Kenworth dealers are totally out of K100 stock. Some can't even pull up parts on them. They still have engine part info through the early 1990s, but even Cummins doesn't keep the books or tools around for 1970s and earlier engines (I found an exception outside st louis; they had tools going back so far they could take her out back and shoot her if need be).

SQ100 Spicer diffs, rocker switches for the dash, wheel studs, air wiper motor. So far it's all been available but I've had to look and sometimes it ain't cheap. The Peterbilt dealer sometimes isn't much help because parts aren't on the computer....(microfiche only) and there are no parts diagrams (parts list only).
Which reminds me that I need to start another thread about double nut Bud wheels.wore out Thanks this. -
I guess it's a difference in the help at the peterbilt dealers. I keep studs for mine as well. BTW I never said cheap just available lol. Just giving you a hard time
