Hey guys, I recently aquired a free parts truck, an '89 K100E aerodyne that came with a '99 K100E aerodyne I bought. The shop I got it from said it came in on the hook approx 4 years ago with a blown turbo n apparently thats all that was wrong with it. The turbo had dissapeared before I got it and since getting it home I have made it into kind of a project. The CAC and all intake piping was removed, but is still with the truck. There is oil through all the piping and hoses. I have tried to get this thing running (after running a bypass hose for the turbo oil lines) by pull starting it and when I let the clutch out the rear end just locks up. The tranny is a 13 spd and it seems that it is stuck in what I think is 2nd gear (the shift cable ball/socket ends are seized pretty good) but would that be a high enough gear to at least get it to turn while trying to pull start it on pavement? I wouldnt think that it would be seized that solid after only sitting for 4 years... Any ideas??

When you say "The CAC and all intake piping was removed, but is still with the truck. There is oil through all the piping and hoses." are you saying there is oil in all the intake piping and hoses?. If so, I'm thinking that when the turbo blew what actually happened was that the turbo shaft broke and the engine ran away sucking crank case oil through the turbo until the engine seized.

You should be able to bar the engine over by hand. If you cannot move it, I would say you have "rust welded" pistons in the liners. At any time there are some cylinders open to the atmosphere through open valves. Moisture and condensation will eventually get in and form rust.

Hmmm...not good. So if it could be 'rust welded' would it be catastrophic to try pull starting it in a higher gear?

Fill the cylinders with diesel fuel, let them sit for a couple of days and try it again.
Heavyd Thanks this. -
Can I pour it right down the intake? A gallon or so? How would I drain it, or will it just puke n cough n smoke like hell till it fires??

All excellent ideas. One thing I would add, I don't think you would get it to turn in 2nd gear even if it was a good running engine. In the experiences I've had, that's too slow of a gear. Maybe 5th, or since you've got it aired up to release the brakes, try it in high range, 7th or 8th gear. If it skids then she's probably seized.

Yea, I think thats what Im gonna do. Taking the injectors out looks like quite a job from what I have read...unless there is any other way to get diesel down into the cylinders. What if I poured a lil down the exhaust maifold and intake? Or is that a dumb idea? Maybe 1/2 a quart in each?

I just got off the phone with the previous owner and he had a sriver in it when the turbo went. He thinks that it ran away on em. What is the best case or worst case scenario with an engine running away till it quits? Im going to take the pan off and see if the bearings are mashed. He said that engine was just rebuilt and would have less then 15K miles on it...
