my starter is starting to drag, so I was talking to another driver about putting one on this week end & he mentioned he has one that is 1/2 the weight,. 1/2 the size & pulls a lot less volt's, than the original starter. I have a rebuilt one in my side box for the last couple years, so I was always ready if need be. looked up the date of my current starter & it has been on there for 5 years. it is big & heavy. ser 60 det. so any one have any info on this new type starter?

I put one on my truck last winter. It has some gear reduction in it. It draws less power to spin motor. I hope it will last longer and the batteries will last longer. At least start easier in winter. It seems the same during the warmer months.

Go to your parts house and ask for a 39mt style starter for your application. Should get one for around $300. You can find them cheaper on eBay

Man that's cheap. I just put a $350 one very nearly identical to that on a Peterbilt with a Cummins. Delco brand, and it spins over so much faster than I ever heard that truck crank before.

That starter is pretty much all we use on the snow plow fleet. They are good starters however the only thing I don't like about them is they use a small solenoid bolted to the starter to control the standard solenoid on the starter. This allows less draw on your switch wire but for our applications its a few more connections that go green and cause truck not to start at the fuel island when its snowing and blowing lol.

Curious if anyone noticed that they don't have any older engines listed on their product sheets, would one of these work on say an old 855 or would an upgrade be needed to the bigger 44mt model.
