Does anyone know where the engine coolant temperature sender for the gauge is located on an 1998 early 3406E Cat with the 40 pin ECM? There is nothing by the thermostat housing except a hose that goes up to the surge tank. I'm looking at one on the back of the head by the firewall with two spade terminals, but I'm not sure it's the one. I'm hoping to get some time to trace wires this week to help figure it out. The gauge worked until last week, but now stays pegged on the low side. Thanks for any help.

It should be on the thermostat housing, If it's like a 3406C it will be on top. Right behind the A/C compressor.

it is a PITA to get at.just like above post said, but you have to look close to see it buried behind a/c compressor.good luck.

On mine 98 3406E 40 pin the gauge is mechanical. From the gauge the capillary tubing going through the firewall to the front top of the cylinder head. It is very close where a fuel line connects to the cylinder head. Yours may be different i.e. electrical....
