Just had my truck on the dyno. 2008 pete 389 c15 18 speed 336 gears 24.5 rubber. Just bought it and dealer told me it had 600 horse to the ground. Got to work and heck no. Just dyno it and it had peak 412 to the ground.

Obviously with the stated horsepower I have some additional work done to the motor but the company I talked to today who did the tune said 600 is a lie, it should have 500 to the ground.

What could be causing the loss? Even if it was stock 550 I think 412 at ground is low isn't it?

Unless my turbos got plugged up with all that salesmans bull crap he was spitting out.

I haul 140,000lbs and the only way that 336 gears would have worked was if I had the 600 to the floor I was promised. I can't even work with this thing right now.

I attached my dyno slip (if it worked).... don't pay attention to the torque, they never set it up they said. The rpm is roller rpm.... they checked at 1300 1400 1500 and 1600 rpm.

You do understand that no engine makes its peak power down that low in the rpm range, if your engine is set at 2100 rpm then that is where it makes its highest HP.

Looks like you were spinning the tires on the rolls in the last run, assuming this was the 1600 rpm run, and the runs were in the order you mention, 1300-1400-1500-1600.

    roller rpm vs engine rpm: 980 - 1300, 1055 - 1400, 1111 - 1500, and then 981 - 1600.
Same roller rpm at 1600 engine rpm as at 1300rpm.
Does not make sense, unless the 1600 rpm was in a different (lower) gear.

Seems to be geared a little high for the weight you're hauling....

Yes it is. As I stated the only way those gears would work is if the horsepower was up there.

Turns out the dealer was 100% mistaken and had given me the work order from another truck. They are going to get me the power I was promised. Makes more sense knowing that.

I think the only way you'll get that power from an acert and have it act the way you are wanting would be through PDI. If the dealer goes with CAT tunes you'll never the get the power you want.

You say even if it is a stock 550. Is it the 550? Or the 600, 625?? The 550 is at its limit as a 550 through CAT unless they do aftermarket. They can not program them with the higher ratings because the injectors, pistons, turbos etc are different. You'll actually lose power putting the higher tunes into a true 550. I know your probably know that but just wanted to make sure since they told you that they would get you your power and you are dealing with a dealership.

If they are going to stay with CAT stuff use the Heavy Haul file....PM 52. Its one of the better CAT files for the acert. Thats for a 550. FLS 74 FTS -19 have helped our acerts some also. All this stuff has been discussed all over the web and on here but just wanted to put it out there. 140,000 you'll need all the help you can get!!

I see PDI in your future. :)

It's got a mild diesel spec tune on it. I would prefer a pdi tune but it is much cheaper to upgrade the software already installed then re flash from scratch.

They have suggested the economy performance tune for 500 to the ground. They can give me the 600 to the ground but say I may end up with head gasket issues or other mechanical issues especially with the workload I put it through.

Still debating which way to go, I think with those lettuce hauling gears I may need that extra power.

you'd wind up doing it anyway but especially when you do the tune, you'll be doing the head gasket due to 18:1 compression pistons in the acert. when money allows you'll wanna shave them to 16:1 to eliminate that problem. I used to heavy haul with 3:36 gears with a stage 1 PDI tune but still didn't like them, I'd swap for no less than 3:70 for the weight your hauling. Good luck.

With those gears and 24.5 tires just run it in 17 th when loaded and 18 when empty... Your pyro will be through the roof running a hi power engine at low rpm pulling super b weights

i think i would just spend the money on the right gears first then if you still want more pony's later work on that second. start-ability and clutch wear will be a issue even if you got the pony's or just do as magoo says and run it in 17th loaded till you can re-gear.
