Would you run this tire?

I would take it to a cap shop and have a new cap put on it. Way cheaper than another cap or new tire. Keep it as a spare or save it for the next tire change.

You should be able to get that tire capped for under $100. We can in Montana at least.

 

It might make a good swing. I wouldnt do anything else with it. Not worth the hastle or worries IMO.

 

they do make caps for spreads. I used to run them and never had a casing separate and the caps actually wore better than the premium virgin tires I had been running. But I had a couple of sidewall blowouts on near new caps that caused some damage to the trailer and that combined with the loss of the tire killed any savings I had by running caps.

 

We run caps on all out spreads and I have only seen a couple come off(not on trailers I pulled either) the key to caps is watch your air as long as they are fully aired up you will wear them out ways before a cap comes off.
Plus a trailer tire spread tire wears pretty fast
I probably would not run that tire any more than have to I think most DOT would shut you down for it.

 

I tried to keep driving tire like this and I lost pices of tread. Fortunatly no one hert, but I'd not use this tire.

Casting looks well, so u can bring it back to retread shop to fix. They can do it

 

i might run it long enough to get to a place i like to buy my tires but no i would not run the tire out like that. it looks like the cut is shallow enough it probably didn't hurt the structural integrity of the tire. but i wouldn't continue to run it for a extended period of time

 

As hard as it is to let a low mile, damaged tire go, you have to ask yourself what the down time risk is worth. Now that it has been run with the damage so long and exposed to so much contamination, I would not even trust the cap.
