I want to know if the newer code readers will read a older 3406c peec 1993 engine or is there a way to make the engine flash codes? It doesn't come up with key on before starting but 30 seconds roughly it flashes engine warning it doesn't seen to store a code though as it has when a sensor has failed. It clears if shut engine off restart and it's gone till about 30 seconds go by again. So is there a good basic code reader that works or what do most of you do? Thanks
engine code reader info needed

That scan gauge where do I get it ? And it will read all codes ? It has to be something that's not a staying because it's not flashing code when key is on flashes 55 system ok it starts fine just after 30 seconds engine lights come on. Still seems to run fine.
-
Has anyone hooked up a scan gauge to this early of a yr truck. ??? Or does anyone know what protocol they used on the early peec engines. Scan gauge tech dept can't say if it will work or not so far. May have to go the Pro link route.

Check out OTC 3418 code reader got mine from advance auto parts for under $ 400.00. It will read & clear engine , abs & more codes.
-
Not to hijack, but does that scanner display datastream as well? I haven't found anything about that on OTC's site.
-
OTC may work but there tech said it won't but there not sure what protocol the programing used on the early peec models 95 and newer should be fine as there was a standard all engine builders used. Mine is a 93 if I knew how those were programed I'm guessing cat used there own protocol not standard. The only tool I know will work is pro link with a specific cat cartridge. I've been unable to get any info from snap on. I guess I don't buy enough tools to get a response from snap on within 24hrs. So still waiting for info from them.

It should be J1587. 93 was the last year of the PEEC and you should have a PEEC III, which should have a dedicated J1587 data link connector. If you have a single 40 PIN ECM connector, it's a PEEC III.
I'm not 100%, but pretty sure. I know the PEEC III was updated to the standard ATA communication protocal.log trucker Thanks this.
