More than it's worth, IMO. You're looking at about $1500 apiece for the calipers, plus $400-ish for each rotor, the foundations, lines, possibly new hubs- You can buy a lot of high quality fade resistant shoes and good drums for $10k.

If you can find a wrecked truck, or visit a truck wrecking yard, there are bound to be trucks with disc brakes that are wrecked.

Considering who orders them, a very good chance I'd say:biggrin_25523:

usually changing axles. U can find axle on EU junk yard, but europeans use other rim bolt pattern.

I saw freightliner with EU steer axle. not sure about brand and model, but caliper looked like from DAF XF

Yeah, I think the only viable way to do discs on a truck is to have them part of a new truck order. As 4x4 stated, just not worth the cost. Of course, if you have a stack of cash lying around that you don't know what to do with, you could do it, but i would suggest you invest that money in an interest bearing account and come out ahead.

Early calipers were not problem free, they are for good roads.

Caliper has sufisticated self ajusting mechanics, with small screws, gears, chain.... all this stuff may be stuck with rust is boots-seals are worn. Meritor caliper is a bit better, gears are inside caliper body casting.

But newer calipers go better, no two pistons, one only with equalising plate, lightweight so longer durability of liners on rought roads.

Unsolved problem is cracks in disks. Do not overload, abuse disk brakes, they do not fail to stop with heat, but thermal stress cracks disks and do not drive truck with cracks in disks, it may blow and damage a lot.

IMO, disk brakes - more expencese for maintanace and repare, but additional safety.

It is not all, disks are especially cool with EBS. This system require all sensors to be ok, so U cant ignore ABS sensors, brake pad wear sensors, bad modulators... but I'd say EBS saves trucks in emergency situations...
