We've been running several Pete 388 car haulers (2012-2014) with the ISX15's and we haven't had many issues yet. You will want to clean out the DEF doser valve at least once a year. It will plug up if ignored, I use a pick to get out the big chunks, then clean it up with a brass wire brush. You just need a gasket, I do them under the truck so I don't have to remove the coolant lines to it. We also change the crank case filter annually as well, it can cause a derate when they plug up, not a bad idea to keep a spare in the truck. Getting the extended warranty on the engine and aftertreatment is always a good idea. Be sure to have the DPF cleaned just before the warranty runs out, just in case they find a problem (crack), it'll be covered under warranty.
If you haven't, get access to Quickserve
https://quickserve.cummins.com/info/index.html
You get free access for up to 5 engines. It will give you all the service and parts info. It will also give you technical service bulletins and recall info too. That site will become very handy, especially after the warranty runs out.AlexCarHauler Thanks this. -
Thanks for answer. I think, you know, what i'm talking about, ride car hauler too. I like Pete 388/389 looking, but whet test drive WS i choose them. How about power and mpg?

I know that after 2013, isx15 takes little more DEF, but gets better mpg than 2010. It has less break down than the 2010.

I've a friend that's been a very good diesel mechanic forever & he's about 66 & still working & told me the other days that today's Cummings are the best engines & the Paccar's are the worst. Nowadays he only works on the electronics of the engines.
AlexCarHauler Thanks this. -
Paccar engine parts are expensive than cummins. Cummins has more parts available almost on any shop. Paccar, you need to go to kw or pete shop.
-
Wouldn't touch a paccar if you paid me to drive it. Too many problems and as you said russtrucker limited dealer network. Same like Volvos.

Power is fine, ours are 485's. The drivers that got out of the 475 Cat's say that they're pretty much the same, but have a little better low-end power. The guys who got out of the older 6NZ 550's say they suck.
One thing about car hauling is the head rack and trailer are heavy to begin with, so we don't have any regen problems. Aerodynamics are pretty crappy too. The egines are building enough heat to keep them clean, even our guys who run a lot of city. The city guys do say that the HEST light comes on (meaning it's doing an active regen), but no one has ever had to do a parked regen. Even running empty, your heavier than most other empty trucks. -
