Found this truck and and when researching , I get conflicting reports about aerodynamics . Is this truck aerodynamic or are people just playing it up ? 1999 Freightliner condo cabover . I am all about fuel economy !! 12.7 Detroit , 3:08 rear end , 10 speed , 22.5 LP tires .
cabover fuel economy ??

The words cabover and aerodynamic in the same sentence?

my cousin had argosy condo full fairings and t200 both c12, argosy was 6.5mpg t200 5.5mpg. the rest of the world runs cabovers and on everage does better mpg then we in usa with conventionals. you can have best aerodynamics but if you don't the right drivetrain and engine set up...

I meant t2000

The engine, drivetrain, and driver have more to do with fuel economy than whether or not the truck has a hood. There have been cabovers that get 10mpg, and aero trucks that get 4mpg.
blairandgretchen and fuzzeymateo Thank this. -
I guess what I am asking is if you have identical engine , drivetrain and driver - will a 1999 Century condo get better mpg then a 1999 Freightliner condo cabover ? And if so - best guestimate ?

The euro guys claim that a Cabover only breaks the air once....... I guess that makes sense.
Run trailer as close to tractor as possible and drive slowwww... -
cabover may get better mpg in the city, mountains because they usualy lighter and shorter lighter drive shaft. century might win on high speed straight route.
double yellow Thanks this. -
Any truck can get good-great fuel economy. Just depends on how hard you are willing to work to get there. You can see 8.low mpg with that cabover by just having low rolling resistance tires and driving around 60-62 mph (my dad has a 2000 argosy with 12.7 Detroit and so far only did the fleet air filter and those low resistance super singles). Add in all the other goodies and you have yourself an economic truck.

It's not about road speed it's about rpm's. My truck gets better mpg at 65-70 than 60
fuzzeymateo Thanks this.
