Busted the top mirror on the passenger side on the Volvo. I've found replacement glass on E-bay, but is this a DIY job, or best to take to a glass shop or to the Volvo stealership. Mirror is heated and power controlled.

I busted the same one on my 98 way back. I just had a glass shop fix it. As long as it's a glass shop that has some familiarity with big trucks you should be ok. Better than paying thru the nose at Volvo imo. This is off topic, but how do you like that truck? My 98 with an N14 was the quietest truck I've ever driven. With full lockers, an 18spd and 24.5 tires it seemed like it would go anywhere. Seldom had to chain up. Was really an awesome truck.

The truck rides and runs great. This is what the industry would call a cream puff. It was actually taken out of commercial service in 2001 and singled with an 32k air ride hitch put on that can be adapted to a gooseneck as well. It toted horses and prized bulls from Texas to Florida to Montanna and back twice a year for a private ranch. So this truck has been well babied and cared for. Every oil change is documented, every light bulb receipt etc. It has the Cummins M-11 and Rockwell 10sp, that is turned up to the 425/1450 setting. Oh yea, only 464,000 miles...
I'm keeping it in private use to basically haul some horses around, drag our camper (40ft, 23000lbs) around. It pulls and stops so much better than a
F-450. Just need a few items like the mirror, 1 heat control slide knob, and new non-crazed headlights.

How do they do the heating part is it a pad the glass sits against or wires on it like rear glass on cars?

Just a thought are the mirrors inter-changeable left / right?
If so how often may you need to change it out?
Thinking if they can swap L / R then maybe pick up a full mirror as a spare for either side and pop it on when one breaks.

I think the top mirror, long rectangle mirror is left or right. I have no idea about the heater part though, that's one of the things I'm trying to find out.
It broke after ice built up behind the mirror and I went to move it 2 weeks ago, when we were in South freezing Dakota. I guess a combination of 0 degree and a little pressure from the motor was all it took.
