Looking to replace a 9370 L10 300 9spd 50,000 GVW straight truck. We passed the first cut gate with the big 14 & 15L bulls and see the ISL or MF9 at the next split. Does anybody have any experience with these 2014 & 15 composite breeds? One even has an automatic. I am told in the past they had a lot of problems due to rations with lots of manure. The salesmen send us E:mails and tell us there great! We are bunched in the ally way, our knees are knocking, noses over the wall, minds thanking about making a break for those more mature, moderate framed ISM'S. They look good but seem overpriced at 45% of new for 07's & 8's, however I see sisters to our 06 Columbia,s advertised for more than we paid two years ago. Any replies from the experienced is appreciated!

Stay away from maxxforce. Those engines are bad news.

I think they've improved with the updates. I don't know how the new ones are doing now that they use SCR.

Yeah, now that they have them all on SCR, they are a totally different motor. I have bumped into a few guys that had the old version and now have 2015 models. They say it is a night and day difference. They hated the old Maxxforce and they are growing pretty fond of the new SCR version. Who knows. Time will tell.

A lot more in terms of service providers for the Cummins.
Will either of those engines be compatible with your truck? L10.. that truck has a bit of length in the teeth, and electronics for these newer engines and drivetrains are a whole lot more complex now, and set up to where you can't simply figure, "well, I'll just leave that thing unplugged" and expect the system to function properly.

Maxxforce DT,9 and 10 with SCR. are still using the antiquated and problematic HEUI. fuel system.

    BoxCarKidd Thanks this.

Maxxforce D9 is not MAN engine like 11, 12, 15 l engines. It has HEUI injection like Navystar 7.3 used by Ford (powerstroke).

Early versions had Bosh MW ore VP-44 fuel pumps and they were more reliable. Oil driven fuel system is not good for winter conditions.

Cummis engines from ISF to ILS are CRD engines. Common rail injection is made by Bosch. The same like on MAN engines, ore car CRD engines.

So my choise is to avoid HEUI. CRD is not the most reliable thing, but better.
