Ive just aquired a truck that I was told has SQHD rears in it, and Im wondering if the carriers are interchangeable with a newer one, or if the whole axle housing is the same shape at the U bolts for the suspension?

Do not go by what you were told read the tags. I am not an expert but I don't thank anything else but a an SQHP will interchange and that's not newer. If you find the chunks will fit check axle splines and lengths before installation. Drive axles and brackets are square use a tape measure. Use the brackets that come with the truck not the housing, they set driveshaft angle. Grind on them if you have to but don't change the angle. If the alignment dowel pins don't line up cut them off and secure with 7018's after the U-bolts are tight. If switching manufactures make sure the power divider is not locked when the switch is off.

    CaboverKid Thanks this.

I dont have the truck in my possesion yet, I will have early next month, but I am going to repower it with a 3406E and an 18 single over. The truck currently has a 1693TA w/ 12513 n 4.11 rears. I will want to upgrade the gearing to 3.70 or 3.55. What are the chances of finding those gears to fit if they in fact are SQHD rears?

Its definately a rare beast, only 540K original miles on er, but unfortunately she spun a main bearing. Most likely need a line bore, so I figured if its comin out for that then why not replace it with a 5EK 3406E I have sittin in my shop w/ only 2200 hrs on it...

I will have to figure out how to post pics here...

What might it be worth with a spun main? I do know in the last 50K it has new injectors, turbo n flywheel...

Why not keep the 4.11s and go with a B ratio 18 with a .73 od? At 1600 assuming it has 11r24.5s it will be running 67. A single over with .87 od and 3.55s will be running 65 at 1600.

Well mainly I run 57-58 MPH n would like my RPM down to around 1300-1350. LP 24.5's.
