A friend and I have a debate going about how, when he turns off the a/c switch and turns on the defroster vent with the tempature control to hot,his a/c compressor kicks on and off.I told him there is something wrong with his system.he says theres something wrong with my truck.we both have the same truck,T2000 Kenworth...what do you all think?who's right.

I always thought that when the defroster is set in the ON position the compressor kicks on.

The A/C "turns on" when the defrost is on. The reason is, when cooling air it condenses the water vapor, thus sending "dryer" air to the windshield to defog faster.

the ac is supposed to kick in on the defrost setting regardless of the ac switch. the reason for this as previously mentioned is to dry/de-humidify the air

    Cetane+ Thanks this.

I wish I could disable that function on my Western Star. I don't need the a/c trying to dry my air on the inside of my windshield, while at the same time cooling the defrost temperature, when I'm trying to melt ice fog off the outside of the window while it is -34 outside.
